National Novel Writing Month- Day 1 2023

NaNo Day 1

National Novel Writing Month is here!

The first day!

I stayed up until midnight on Discord in my region’s chatroom, and did a fifteen minute sprint.

I got out 33 words, which was better than I expected, because I was very, very tired staying up that late. I had expected that I’d only manage like 2 to 10 words! So 33 was a win for me.

So later on in the morning, I actually “officially” started NaNoWriMo at 10 a.m. at a write-in with a zoom group that meets every work day (Monday-Friday) at 10 a.m. EST/9am US Central time / 2pm GMT. It’s called Writing Together with Scribophile. If you haven’t heard of it, you should check it out, it’s pretty neat. I’m on a 9 day writing streak!

So I settled down with my NaNoWriMo mug fill of hot chocolate, and I got out another 84 words during the 1 hour allotted time.

Hot coco w/marshmallows is my beverage of choice

However to win NaNoWRiMo you need to write about 1,667 words a day.

By 10 p.m., I had only written 117 words. That won’t work to help me win this challenge! Well, I won’t consider this day a total bust, because I did write, but it does mean I’ll have to work double tomorrow, or over time I’ll have to play catch up.

Then at 10 p.m. was the NaNoWriMo Write-Together-a-Thon with guest author Mary Robinette Kowal so I thought I’d hop in to try and write more…but I fell asleep.

I mean, I was listening to the speakers chat, and hoping they’d start writing soon, but I was too tired to hang in there.

So I updated my word count onto the NaNoWriMo site on my Stats page, because I had actually forgotten to input the 84 words from earlier, and turned off the computer for the day. I was in bed before 11 p.m. with a grand total of 117 words.

And that was NaNoWriMo Day 1 for me.

Definitely not a success, I didn’t even write 200 words, let alone the required 1,667 daily. But I did manage to earn several badges on the site, which is always fun, like Updating Your Writing Progress, First Day Update, and Update More Than Once in One Day.

I simply have to write more. Which is easier said that done, but it is possible.

To help me concentrate better, I’m actually not even writing in bed anymore, but I’ve started writing at the dining room table, sitting up with my hot chocolate, at a table. I was going to write at my desk, but its just too uncomfortable there. I probably need a new chair.

Until then, I have so many pictures of my cats who were all curled up next to me while I was writing in bed, that I’ll keep sharing them at the end of my posts!
